This project proves that a high-end fitted wardrobe doesn’t always require a fully bespoke cabinet build.
For this installation, we used ready-made IKEA wardrobe units as the foundation, then completely transformed them into a seamless built-in feature tailored to the room.
Each wardrobe was carefully modified and cut down to fit the full height of the space, eliminating awkward gaps above the units. The wardrobes were then enclosed on both sides with MDF panels, creating the appearance of a custom-made installation rather than flat-pack furniture.
All visible surfaces were professionally prepared, primed and hand-painted in a Tikkurila colour chosen by the client. The finish was applied to achieve a smooth, factory-quality appearance, giving the wardrobes the look of a spray-finished joinery product.
The result is a clean, elegant and fully integrated design that looks like a premium bespoke installation, while making smart use of off-the-shelf components to keep costs under control.
One of the most impressive aspects of this project is the value achieved. The complete installation – including materials, modifications, MDF panelling, painting and labour – cost the client just £3,200 for all three wardrobes.
A perfect example of how thoughtful design and skilled craftsmanship can create a luxury finish without the luxury price tag.
